Uber to Pay $4.4 Million to Resolve EEOC Sexual Harassment and Retaliation Charge

Uber has worked with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission of the United States and have settled a sexual harassment case. Uber is being forced to create a fund of $4.4 million dollars to compensate anyone who has experienced sexual harassment after January 1, 2014 that worked for the company. Uber is also being forced to change their policies with help from outside parties with expertise in harassment. The settlement will hopefully be something that empowers women to talk about the sexism they face in their workplace.

Key Takeaways:

  • Uber is establishing a class fund of 4.4 million dollars to pay anyone who the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission finds was sexually harassed after January 1st, 2014.
  • Uber is choosing to work together with the EEOC in order to promote gender equality within their business.
  • This deal is being made to help empower women and promote them to talk about sexism in the workplace to spark real change.

“This settlement resolves a 2017 EEOC Commissioner’s Charge of sex discrimination, ending an extensive investigation in which the EEOC found reasonable cause to believe that Uber permitted a culture of sexual harassment and retaliation against individuals who complained about such harassment, in violation Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.”
