Michigan apples being recalled in eight states for possible Listeria contamination

Over 2000 cases of Michigan apples were recalled due to potential listeria contamination. No related illnesses had been reported, and the possible contamination was limited to only the apples. No other products were affected. The brands affected were: Great Lakes, North Bay Produce, Pure Michigan, and several unbranded varieties and generic store labels. The apples were shipped between October 16-21, to various wholesalers, retailers and brokers. The distribution of the apples was in several central and southern states.

Key Takeaways:

  • Several tons of apples from Michigan are recalled due to potential listeria contamination.
  • No other products were contaminated and no illnesses had been reported.
  • The distribution was limited to some central and southern states, and encompassed several brands.

“Nearly 2,300 cases of fresh Michigan apples and two bulk bins that were distributed in eight states are part of the recall because they are potentially contaminated with the listeria monocytogenes bacteria, the company said in a news release.”
