Chipotle to Pay $95,000 to Settle EEOC Sexual Harassment and Retaliation Lawsuit

After a lawsuit stemming from a 2019 incident of workplace sexual harassment, the fast food company Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc agreed to pay settlement. The lawsuit was filed by the federal workplace regulator, the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The incident was one of a female supervisor making verbal and physical actions towards a male subordinate. The incident also included retaliatory actions by the perpetrator. According to the EEOC the violations from the behavior of the employee and the restaurant violate Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that aims to prevent this exact type of harassment. The settlement as part of a pretrial action amounts to $95K for the employee’s lost wages and damages. The settlement also demands Chipotle design new policies to address the harassment failings.
